Location: Rasoun Village – Community Tourism, Homestay & Jordan Trail Experience
Issa Dweikat, a proud local from Rasoun village in Ajloun, has become one of the region’s most inspiring community tourism leaders. His journey began when he started offering logistical support to hiking groups visiting Ajloun through Facebook. During the early development of the Jordan Trail, Issa was among the dedicated volunteers who helped map sections of the route.
After completing training and capacity-building programs with the Jordan Trail Association, Issa began welcoming hikers into his family home and offering guided hiking experiences across the forests, fields, and hilltops surrounding Ajloun. His warm hospitality, deep local knowledge, and passion for nature quickly made his homestay a favorite stop for trekkers.
As his work grew, Issa reinvested his income to build a second floor onto his home, allowing him to host more visitors and expand his services. Today, he guides and hosts hundreds of hikers each year, becoming a role model for sustainable community tourism in northern Jordan. His success has inspired others in nearby villages to develop similar initiatives along the Jordan Trail.
Issa’s story reflects the wider economic potential of the Jordan Trail: with an estimated 20,000 hikers annually, studies project an economic impact of around 7 million USD, with 70% benefiting local communities—creating meaningful livelihoods and encouraging rural families to preserve their natural and cultural heritage.
A stay or hike with Issa offers travelers an authentic and heartwarming experience of village life, shared meals, scenic trails, and genuine Jordanian hospitality.
