What is the activity?
Diving in Aqaba It is an activity available to everyone, both for expert divers and for people who dive for the first time. In general, the dive points are simple and in many cases it is not necessary to have an official PADI certification, because the depth reached is not excessive, so that the dives are very superficial or even in snorkel mode. However, other points are more demanding, with coral walls that sink hundreds of meters, so they are reserved for more experienced users.
It should be borne in mind that the characteristics of the Red Sea off the coast of Aqaba are very favourable. There are virtually no sea currents, which facilitates dives for novice divers. On the other hand, the water temperature is very pleasant throughout the year: it ranges between 20ºC in winter and 26ºC in summer, approximately. And in addition, visibility is very wide, hovering between 20 and 45 meters, depending on the area.
In general, there are two great options for those who are interested in diving in Aqaba:
Dives to spot colourful corals and marine species, including clownfish, blue surgeonfish, angelfish and seahorse, as well as larger turtles such as moray eels, napoleon fish, some type of shark and rays
Wreck dives: Sunken ships represent a different and fascinating type of dive, not only because of their visual and evocative power, but because around them arises an explosion of surprising marine life
Where to dive in Aqaba
One of the great advantages of diving in Aqaba It can be done practically from the beach, accessing on foot and swimming to the dive point, without having to get on a boat. To do this, you have to move south of Aqaba and reach the coastal strip between the city and the border with Saudi Arabia. This is where most of the Dive Centres are concentrated, which have very trained and friendly staff, where it is possible to take training courses or simply book a simple dive without certification.
Some of the most famous dive sites among those who practice diving in Aqaba are:
Japanese Garden, a spectacular reef of colourful corals, seasoned with a huge variety of small fish and even larger marine animals, such as hawksbill turtles
First Bay North: another of the diving points that stand out for their variety of colourful species, which also include squid and lionfish, among others
Cedar Pride wreck: sunk in 1982, it is a ship built in northern Spain, with more than 75 meters in length. It represents one of the best opportunities to see a wreck for divers without experience or certification, since normally this type of sunken boats are dozens or hundreds of meters under the sea. On the other hand, the hull of this wreck can be seen just 7 meters from the surface
Other dive spots: Although the previous three are very popular, especially among novice divers, there are many other dive sites in Aqaba. These include:
Power Station
First North Bay B
First South Bay
Ras Al Yemaya B/S
King Abdullah Reefs
Black Rock
Rainbow Reef
Wreck Tarmac Five
Tayong Tayong wreck
Gorgonian I
Gorgonian II
The Seven Sisters
New Tank
Eel Garden
Wreck Shorouk
Yellow Stones Reef
Blue Coral B
Kiwi Reef
What's included and more details

The good news is that users without experience or title can perform simple dives (Discover Scuba Diving), shallow depth (between 7 and 10 meters). The monitor guides will explain the basic notions to carry it out.
