Diving in Aqaba – Explore the Depths of the Red Sea

Diving in Aqaba offers an unforgettable experience for divers of all levels, from beginners to experts. The Red Sea off the coast of Aqaba is famous for its calm waters, excellent visibility, and favorable diving conditions throughout the year. The dive sites range from shallow, beginner-friendly spots to deep, thrilling wreck dives, making it a must-visit destination for diving enthusiasts.

Types of Diving Experiences:

  1. Reef Diving: Discover colorful coral reefs and abundant marine life. Expect to encounter clownfish, blue surgeonfish, angelfish, seahorses, and larger marine creatures like turtles, moray eels, napoleon fish, rays, and even some types of sharks.

  2. Wreck Diving: Aqaba’s waters are home to several fascinating sunken ships, including the Cedar Pride wreck, a 75-meter-long ship sunk in 1982. It lies just 7 meters below the surface, making it accessible to even novice divers. Explore these eerie sites and the marine life that thrives around them.

Where to Dive in Aqaba:

  • Japanese Garden: A vibrant reef known for its diverse marine species, including hawksbill turtles.

  • First Bay North: Features an array of colorful species, squid, and lionfish.

  • Cedar Pride Wreck: Perfect for beginner divers, the wreck is a unique site at just 7 meters depth.

Other notable dive spots include:

  • Power Station

  • First North Bay B

  • King Abdullah Reefs

  • Black Rock

  • Rainbow Reef

  • Wreck Tarmac Five

Why Aqaba is Ideal for Diving:

  • Calm Waters: Aqaba’s dive sites have minimal sea currents, making it easier for novice divers to enjoy the underwater world.

  • Pleasant Water Temperature: The Red Sea’s water temperature remains between 20°C in winter and 26°C in summer, making for comfortable dives year-round.

  • Excellent Visibility: Visibility ranges from 20 to 45 meters, allowing divers to clearly explore the stunning reefs and wrecks.

What’s Included in a Diving Experience:

  • For Beginners: You don’t need certification to dive! Beginners can enjoy shallow dives (7-10 meters deep) with experienced instructors, who will guide you through the basics of diving.

  • Equipment: Dive centers provide all the necessary diving or snorkeling gear.

  • Photography/Video: Capture your adventure with optional photography and video services.

  • Transportation: Private transportation to dive sites can be arranged.

  • Meals: Depending on the length and location of the dive, lunch may be included.

Diving Courses:

For those looking to gain certification and dive deeper, courses like PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water are available. These courses allow you to take on more challenging dives at greater depths.
