The Trail of Wadi Mudhluim - an alternative to the Siq, through the Nabatean Tunnel and a winding narrow canyon. The Siq is the best-known and most spectacular entrance to Petra, and is used by the majority of visitors to the ruins. However, there are a number of alternative entrances to the ruins, which see far fewer visitors and which are well worth exploring, especially if you plan more than 1 or 2 days in Petra.

Although you should definitely follow the Siq into Petra at least once (and probably more than once, at different times of day), if you’ve allocated several days to a visit, the beautiful Wadi Muthlim is a good alternative entry route through stunning scenery, but taking no less than two hours to deliver you to the Nymphaeum in the city centre. Due to the very real danger of flash floods, you shouldn’t attempt it at all during the rainy season – roughly November to March – and even as late as May, there may be difficult-to-avoid standing pools of water harbouring water snakes: wading would be a mistake.
Before beginning the walk, you can take a small detour from the dam at the Siq entrance up to the Eagle Niche, set in the rocks 400m to the northwest. Cross the wadi over the roof of the tunnel and head left up the second side-valley; it’s a short scramble over the smooth, hot rock up to a set of small niches carved in the right-hand wall, one of which features a strikingly carved eagle with wings outspread.
Back at the tunnel, Wadi Muthlim – full of oleanders, but with high walls cutting out all sound bar the occasional birdsong – is easily passable up to the remains of another Nabatean dam; beyond here, the path gets steadily narrower until you reach a point where a massive boulder all but blocks the way. It’s possible to squeeze past, and the path continues to narrow until, with the wadi floor no wider than your foot, you reach a T-junction; arrows on the solid walls all around will point you left. This cross-wadi is the SiddMaajn, equally narrow, but beautifully eroded by flowing water. As you proceed, seemingly moving through the heart of the mountain, you’ll notice the Nabateans were here before you: there are dozens of carved niches, some featuring pediments, other curving horns. It’s around here that the way might be blocked by rockpools.
Eventually, you’ll emerge into the open Wadi Mataha, about 600m northeast of Dorotheos’ House, and the best part of 2km northeast of the Nymphaeum.

: 4- In very rare cases, JHT reserves the rights to amend or cancel the booking in the following cases: DT
-(A). In Last minute booking in less than 24 hrs period of the requested date. –(B). When no personalized follow up email detailing that a booking is confirmed is sent by a member of our reservation team. If our JHT team is not available i.e. contact outside working hours, weekends, national holiday, religious holidays or any applicable holiday i.e. Easter, Eids, Christmas, New Year’s Eve…etc. –(C). In cases of missing information on guests’ side as some information is necessary. – (D). Also JHT reserves the right to amend /cancel the tour / itinerary for reasons such as service requirements, road or weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Where a change /cancellation is of a significant nature it will be advised to our customers in writing. JHT cannot be held responsible for any service that we are unable to provide due to that particular component being unavailable due to circumstances beyond our control. – (E). Note that Refunds will be applied as applicable in case if we have the rights to cancel the booking as explained above.

We may provide you with information (before and during your tour with Jordan Horizons Tours - JHT) about activities and excursions throughout the course of your tour in Jordan that are offered by third-party operators. Because these excursions will be provided by local operators and independent suppliers, Jordan Horizons Tours - JHT does not have any involvement in how they are run, nor can Jordan Horizons Tours - JHT guarantee the accuracy of information in relation to such activities and excursions outside of our control. –(B). Jordan Horizons Tours - JHT cannot guarantee that an optional excursion or activity operated by an independent third party will be available during your tour in Jordan, or that it will operate as advertised. Jordan Horizons Tours - JHT disclaims any liability in relation to such activities or excursions. –(C). Those tours are subject to the supplier’s Terms and conditions or any other circumstances, i.e : service requirements, road or weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances…etc -(D) If you want to include this tour in your Jordan Tour package with us , this will be added to your original booking and you can pay to us directly & it will be added to the tour .-(E). : 2. When those tours can be booked or added to your tour package in Jordan OTIJ
-(A). Those tours only available for booking in case if a tour package has been booked and those tour to be added to the package. So, Booking this tour is not available UNLESS you have already booked or you are going to book a tour package in Jordan.-(B). Otherwise if you have a rental car and booking Jordan tour by your own, you can contact them the suppliers of those tours to book it for you.
: 3. Booking in Advance or Booking once you are in Jordan ? OTIJ
-(A). Some optional tours can not be booked in advance and they will be available upon your arrival to Jordan (Examples : camel riding in Petra and Wadi Rum, Golf Carts in Petra, Petra by Night, Petra Kitchen, Beit Setti, optional tours in Aqaba …etc. You can ask your driver/guide to book and arrange them for you , and you can pay to the driver or to the service supplier directly. –(B). However, some of the optional tours should be booked in advance, (i.e Balloon Ride , Horse Riding in Petra or Wadi Rum , Guided tours in Petra , Tours by Jeep or Trekking in wadi rum , Hiking tours and guides in Dana …etc), Those optional tours should be booked in advance and they are subject to the supplier’s Terms and conditions or any other circumstances, i.e : service requirements, availability, road or weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances…etc.
Pro-tip: Some activities and excursions are subject to a minimum number of travelers in order to run, while the excursions could be confirmed by supplier months ahead, closer to date, and if the minimum number to operate was not achieved, or if for weather conditions, it was deemed unsafe to run, the excursions can be cancelled by vendor.
