However, we usually restrict the capacity to 13 people to ensure there is ample luggage space and to make the trip more comfortable with fewer passengers.

Professional Driver Services in Jordan with Transportation

Our driver services go beyond just transportation. Each of our drivers is professional, courteous, and committed to ensuring your travel experience is seamless:

  • English-Speaking Drivers: Our drivers are very good and good in English and can assist you throughout your journey.
  • Multilingual Drivers (Upon Request): For travelers who prefer communication in other languages, we offer drivers who speak Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Russian upon request.

JHT Driver Service Guidelines

When you book with Jordan Horizons Tours, an English-speaking driver will accompany you (if your final itinerary includes transfers). Your driver will assist you throughout the tour, but please note the following:

  • Drivers are not licensed tour guides. They will transfer you between destinations but cannot enter the sites with you. Local guides are available for hire at sites like Petra and Jerash, and their services are included in our packages. In Wadi Rum, a local Bedouin guide will accompany you on jeep tours.
  • While drivers can suggest restaurants and provide local information, their primary role is transporting you from one destination to another according to your itinerary. They are not available 24/7 but will ensure your travel is smooth and comfortable.

Mandatory Local Guides at Petra, Jerash, and Amman City Tour Sites

At iconic sites such as Petra, Jerash, and the Amman Citadel, it is mandatory to use local guides. This is in line with the regulations set by the visitor centers at these locations. These guides provide rich, detailed insights into the history and significance of each site, ensuring you get the most out of your visit. The cost of local guides is included in our quotations for tours to these destinations.

Licensed Guides for Groups of Seven or More

For groups of seven or more travelers in a single vehicle, the Jordanian government and the Ministry of Tourism require that a licensed guide accompany the group for the entire duration of the trip. The guide will greet you upon arrival in Jordan and stay with your group until your departure. The guide is also responsible for handling the group’s documentation, such as the visa manifest, which is stamped upon arrival by Jordanian authorities.

Additionally, group tours are escorted by police officers to ensure the safety and security of the group throughout the journey. It is a violation of local laws for groups of seven or more to travel without a guide and a police escort.

Flexible Independent Travelers (FITs) and Private Groups of Six or Fewer: Do You Need a Guide?

For smaller groups of six or fewer travelers, many wonder whether it’s necessary to hire a guide. Jordan offers a wealth of experiences for both guided and independent travelers. Here’s a brief overview of the pros and cons of hiring a guide:

Benefits of Hiring a Guide:

  1. Local Expertise: Guides provide deep insights into Jordan’s history, culture, and traditions, greatly enriching your travel experience.
  2. Language Assistance: While English is widely spoken, a guide can help with local Arabic dialects and facilitate more meaningful interactions with locals.
  3. Logistics and Navigation: A guide handles the complexities of travel, ensuring a smooth journey through cities and remote areas alike.
  4. Safety and Comfort: Particularly in remote areas like the desert, having a guide ensures your safety and helps manage any unexpected situations.

Advantages of Traveling Solo:

  1. Flexibility: Traveling independently allows you to create your own itinerary and adapt your plans on the go.
  2. Cost Savings: Traveling without a guide can reduce your overall travel costs, allowing you to tailor your trip to your budget.
  3. Personal Connections: Solo travel may open the door to more personal interactions with locals, leading to unique and authentic experiences.

The Best of Both Worlds:

Many travelers find a balanced approach works best. You can hire a guide for complex sites such as Petra or Wadi Rum, where their knowledge enhances your visit, and explore smaller towns or less touristy areas on your own.

Jordan Horizons Tours offers a wide range of transportation and guiding services tailored to all types of travelers. Whether you prefer the support and knowledge of a licensed guide or the flexibility of independent travel, we ensure your journey through Jordan is comfortable, safe, and unforgettable.
