Amman - The first half report of the current year of the Executive Program of the Economic Modernization Vision regarding Jordan's engine as a global destination "the tourism sector" showed that the number of tourists coming to the Kingdom during the first half of this year reached 2.79 million tourists.
According to the report, the number of those coming to the Kingdom via low-cost and regular flights reached 138 thousand passengers who arrived on board 993 aircraft, while unified ticket sales reached 59 thousand tickets.
The report touched on the development of archaeological and tourist sites , the maintenance and development of heritage sites, and work is underway to maintain, restore and rehabilitate many archaeological sites around the Kingdom and protect archaeological and tourist sites by installing electronic gates.
With regard to improving Jordan's connectivity with the targeted countries, the report indicated that the number of passengers arriving to the Kingdom via contracted low-cost airlines reached approximately 123,000 passengers by the end of the first half, arriving on board 919 aircraft from 18 different destinations, in addition to those arriving via regular flights.
The report also developed the legislative environment with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism, protecting heritage and natural resources, and simplifying procedures, which contributes to attracting more tourists and supporting the local economy more efficiently.
