Petra Tourism Surges: 81,000 Visitors in October

Petra continues to shine as one of Jordan’s top tourist destinations, with October and November showing remarkable growth compared to last year. The positive figures reflect a strong rebound in tourism, benefiting local businesses and communities across the region.

In October, Petra welcomed approximately 81,000 visitors, marking a 71% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, 49,910 were international travelers, nearly doubling the previous year’s numbers with a 99% increase. On October 24, 2025, the Petra Archaeological Reserve alone saw 4,957 visitors. Since the beginning of November, visitor numbers have already reached 51,251, up 19% from last year, with indicators suggesting further growth in the coming weeks.

Hotel occupancy rates in Petra remain high, reflecting renewed confidence in Jordan as a safe and stable destination. The resurgence of tourism has been supported by improved regional conditions and the return of low-cost flights, contributing to the country’s growing appeal for both international and domestic travelers.

The tourism boost has positively impacted restaurants, cafes, and various strategic partners both inside and outside the reserve, who offer a range of experiences designed to extend visitors’ stays in the Petra Development and Tourism Region.

Looking ahead, Petra is set to host numerous activities and events next year, further cementing its reputation as a hub for art, culture, and creativity. One standout initiative this year, titled “Bedouin Culture in Wadi Rum and Petra,” highlights Jordan’s rich cultural heritage and was recognized on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008. Efforts included setting up six Bedouin tents across Al-Amarin, Umm Sayhoun, Al-Taybeh, Wadi Musa, Dalagha, and Al-Rajef, showcasing the renowned hospitality and generosity of the Jordanian people.

These encouraging trends demonstrate Petra’s enduring appeal and the resilience of Jordan’s tourism sector, promising an exciting future for visitors and local communities alike.
