The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority confirmed that tourism in Petra is proceeding normally and that the archaeological site is receiving visitors as usual.
The situation within the region is stable and secure, and all tourist facilities and services are operating at full capacity, including visitor centers, tourist trails, and hotels.
Petra, as one of Jordan's most prominent global tourist destinations, continues to welcome tourists of all nationalities. The Authority emphasized the readiness of tourism sector personnel to provide services to visitors according to the highest standards of safety and quality.
The relevant authorities in the region are in constant communication with partners in the tourism sector to ensure the smooth flow of tourism and provide a safe and comprehensive visitor experience. Those wishing to visit Petra are encouraged to rest assured that the situation is stable and that regular tourist programs are continuing.
Petra welcomes visitors from all over the world and remains open to international tourism as one of the most important sites of human heritage. On another front, the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, in cooperation with Al-Samna Field Company for Environmental Studies and Consultations, is implementing a specialized scientific program to conduct field studies on biodiversity in Petra. The aim is to document and assess the components of the natural environment and enhance the environmental database to support conservation and sustainable management plans.
According to a statement issued by the Authority on Monday, the current phase includes conducting specialized field surveys to study wild plants. This involves inventorying species, documenting their distribution patterns, and assessing their environmental status. Comprehensive studies of resident and migratory birds are also being conducted, given the region's ecological importance as a natural corridor within regional migration routes.
The field team is working to collect and analyze data according to approved scientific methodologies and rigorous research standards. This ensures the production of reliable information that contributes to supporting efforts to preserve biodiversity and enhance the efficiency of environmental planning and natural resource management in the region.
These studies represent a strategic step in supporting the Authority's plans to conserve biodiversity. The survey results will provide a scientific reference that will guide future environmental decisions and policies on a clear scientific basis. The field survey program extends over a full year and covers a geographical area of approximately 439 square kilometers, reflecting a long-term institutional commitment to protecting Petra’s natural heritage and promoting its sustainability in accordance with best environmental practices.
