Queen Alia Airport records highest passenger traffic in half year

The Airport International Group concluded the first half of 2025 with notable achievements across operations, infrastructure, sustainability, digital transformation, and corporate social responsibility at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). The achievement also underscored the airport's commitment to providing a world-class travel experience.
During the first half of the year, QAIA welcomed a total of 4,406,690 passengers, the highest half-yearly passenger traffic in its history, registering a 6% growth compared to the first half of 2024.

According to a statement issued by the group on Thursday, this increase was driven by the return of several regional and European air routes and increased travel during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Aircraft movements also increased by 2.2%, with the airport recording 36,331 movements, while air cargo traffic decreased by 16.5%, reaching 32,086 tons last June. The airport also received 717,840 passengers, a 16.6% decrease compared to June 2024 due to regional tensions and the resulting disruption of some flights. Regarding aircraft movements, the airport recorded 5,827 movements and handled 4,174 tons of air cargo, indicating a year-on-year decline of 19.6% and 27.5%, respectively, compared to June 2024.
In the first half of the year, Queen Alia International Airport witnessed a notable recovery in airline activity, as several airlines resumed operations and new airlines and routes joined. Flyadeal and Ajet resumed flights to and from the airport, while Royal Jordanian expanded its global network by launching direct routes to Damascus, Aleppo, Mumbai, and Washington, D.C. Libyan Wings and SunExpress also began operating flights from the airport.
These developments highlight Queen Alia International Airport's growing appeal as a regional hub and underscore its ongoing commitment to expanding its air connectivity with key markets. In addition, the inauguration of the Shams Airport Solar Power Plant last April, operated by Shams Airport Power Company (Kawar Investment), marked a significant milestone in the sustainability journey. The 4.8-megawatt plant produces more than 10.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, covering approximately 25% of the international airport's operational energy needs.

In addition to reducing costs, the solar power plant reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 12,000 tons annually, cementing Queen Alia International Airport's position as one of the largest solar-powered airports in the Middle East and North Africa.
Last January, Menzies Aviation Services, the ground handler at Queen Alia International Airport, inaugurated its second 8,000-square-meter air cargo facility in cooperation with Air Handling Services (AHS). This has contributed to doubling the airport's operational capacity for air cargo handling, streamlining operations, and creating new job opportunities. As part of enhancing passenger flow through technology, a pilot phase of new e-gates was launched last June to expedite travel procedures for Jordanian citizens. Nine smart gates have been installed (five in the arrivals hall and four in the departures area), providing a faster and smoother travel experience while enhancing the airport's operational efficiency, especially during peak periods.

Queen Alia International Airport's commitment to passenger satisfaction was also reaffirmed last March when it was named the "Middle East's Most Enjoyable Airport" for the second time, based on the results of the Airports Council International's 2024 Airport Service Quality Survey.
This recognition follows the renewal of its Level 3 certification from the Airports Council International's Airport Customer Experience Accreditation program in February, further strengthening its position and underscoring its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of passenger services.

As part of its focus on commercial development, Airport International Group signed a strategic agreement with Extime JCDecaux Airport to implement innovative and sustainable advertising solutions that add value to advertisers while simultaneously enhancing the overall passenger experience. Reaffirming its ongoing efforts to empower youth, Airport International Group Foundation launched a new phase of vocational training courses through its "Harfati" training center, registering a 20% increase in applications.

These courses benefited 75 participants, distributed across six specialized fields: fashion design and tailoring (12), programming and software development (13), occupational health and safety (13), mobile phone maintenance (12), air conditioning and refrigeration (13), and warehouse management (12).
Reporting on the achievements of the past six months, Airport International Group CEO Nicolas Devillier said:
"The first half of this year reflects the continued strength of Queen Alia International Airport as a vital national asset and a cornerstone of the Jordanian air transport sector."
