1. What is the Sheikh Hussein Border Crossing called on the Israeli side?
It is generally called the Jordan River Crossing or Jordan River Terminal. In Jordan and in tourism itineraries it is commonly referred to as the Sheikh Hussein Border or Northern Border.
2. Where is the Sheikh Hussein / Jordan River Border?
It is in northern Jordan, on the route between Irbid and Beit She'an. The Israeli terminal is approximately 10 km east of Beit She'an, near the historic Sheikh Hussein Bridge.
3. What are the current opening hours?
The Israel Airports Authority currently publishes:
- Sunday–Thursday: 08:30–18:00, with passenger admission until about 16:30.
- Friday: 08:30–16:00, with passenger admission until about 14:30.
- Saturday: closed.
Because Jordan-side published hours can differ, confirm both terminals before travel.
4. Can I obtain a Jordan visa on arrival at Sheikh Hussein?
Most eligible unrestricted nationalities can normally obtain a Jordan visa on arrival at this crossing. Restricted nationalities and special cases may require prior approval or a visa in advance.
5. How much is the Israeli departure tax at Jordan River Crossing?
The Israel Airports Authority's published land-border fee schedule lists 120 NIS per departing passenger for Jordan River from April 15 through December 31, 2026. A service charge may apply depending on how and where payment is made.
6. How much is a Jordan visa?
The Jordan Tourism Board currently lists a standard single-entry visa fee of 40 JOD for travelers who require a visa and are eligible to receive it on arrival. Nationality-specific rules still apply.
7. Is there a shuttle between the Israeli and Jordanian terminals?
Yes. The Israel Airports Authority currently states that a shuttle operates from the Israeli terminal to the Jordanian terminal approximately every 45 minutes, at a published cost of 8 NIS per passenger. Schedules and prices can change.
8. Why does Jordan Horizons Tours need my passport details?
Passport details may be required to prepare your border-arrival arrangements, passenger information and any coordination connected with your Jordan tour. Send the details exactly as shown in each traveler's passport.
9. Can Jordan Horizons Tours pick us up at Sheikh Hussein Border?
Yes, Jordan-side transport can be arranged as part of your private tour or transfer. Your final confirmation should state where and how you will meet our representative after completing the border procedures.
10. Can the same Jordan tour use Allenby or Sheikh Hussein?
Often, yes. Many of our tours from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other points in Israel can be routed through either crossing. The best option depends on your itinerary, starting point, operating hours and current border conditions.
11. How early should we arrive?
Do not plan to arrive close to the published closing time. Last-admission times can be substantially earlier, and security, immigration, traffic or shuttle waiting can add time to the crossing.
12. Are the fees and hours guaranteed?
No. Government charges, visa rules, holiday schedules, shuttle arrangements and operating hours can change with limited notice. Reconfirm shortly before your travel date.
